The Ministry of I+D+I, under the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, has given accreditation Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence in Neurosciences Institute, Joint Center of Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) and the Superior Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), which develops this Masters in Neuroscience. This initiative, in its third year, recognizes the importance of international scientific research centers have made the elect, and the overall interest of the research programs and staffing proposed for the next four years. With this accreditation, the centers may have a million per year during the four years that comprise the program. The director of the Institute of Neurosciences, Juan Lerma, accepted the flag.
The ceremony was attended also the Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, University Miguel Hernández, Fernando Borrás, the director of the Unit for Developmental Neurobiology, Institute of Neurosciences, Angela Nieto, and the director of the Unit of Cellular Neurobiology and Systems Institute, Miguel Maravall.
This award is the highest recognition of scientific research aimed at centers of excellence in Spain and is granted after a rigorous evaluation process carried out by international scientific committees which are grouped into three areas: life science and medicine, experimental sciences, mathematics and engineering and humanities and social sciences.
The director of the Institute of Neurosciences, Juan Lerma, stressed that this statement «represents the recognition of the continued efforts of people who work in the Institute of Neuroscience and is a greater recognition of neuroscience in Spain and the fundamental role that knowledge of brain has to play in the future of humanity.
